Climate State of Emergency Declaration Event: It’s Serious Activism

published on: July 22, 2022

On July 18, 2022, at Orlando City Hall, Florida Conservation Voters, led by our Chispa Florida program, along with partners, raised their voices to support the efforts of 30 state legislators in asking Governor Ron DeSantis to declare a climate state of emergency for Florida. Partners included the Florida Immigrant Coalition (FLIC), HOPE Community Center, Farmworkers Association of Florida, Mi Familia Vota, La Mesa Boricua, and State Representative Anna Eskamani. Each organization expressed how climate change impacts their work and how frontline communities are directly impacted by extreme weather, high temperatures, and poor air and water quality.

This event is the first in a series of events where we raise our voices and uplift communities to demand government action to deter climate change, transition to cleaner energy alternatives, and take care of our environment. Climate change is not a political issue and does not respond to any hidden agenda. This crisis affects everyone and we need leaders to take action now.

Take action now to demand Governor DeSantis declare a climate state of emergency.
