Democracy For Youth (DeFY) was created with the long-term goal of educating youth about civic engagement in order to increase voter participation in Florida’s democratic process.
This year, we engaged with high school, middle school, and college students. We were able to do workshops with 48 youths that participated in DeFY cohorts and we impacted an additional 113 youths with at least one of our DeFY workshops for a total of 161 engaged youth in Miami Dade County this year!
In total, Democracy For Youth hosted 37 workshops discussing civic engagement and the environment (political and natural). It has been a pleasure to see how passionate young people are about the future of South Florida.
We have seen students organizing walkouts and unapologetically being themselves, as laws and politics become more oppressive for Floridians. It has been an honor for the DFA Florida team to engage youth in some of the most meaningful ways.
