We are at a crossroads in our democracy. Black Americans and allies are fighting for their right to live and love freely, and our state’s COVID-19 cases continue to rise and rise. We are in the midst of a climate crisis and many of our state and national leaders are doing nothing to address it. But that can all change in November 2020.
My name is Savana. I am a FSU graduate and current masters student studying Geographic Information Science. As a Tallahassee resident, I serve on the Board of Sustainable Tallahassee and enjoy spending time outdoors on our plentiful trails. Within my community, I found that a lot of people my age have been wondering what we can do to build a cleaner, greener future; one where Black lives matter, elections are free and fair, and all communities are healthy and happy. At the end of the day, our voice is heard loudest at the ballot box.
That’s why I’m here at Florida Conservation Voters. As FCV’s new Digital Organizer, I will be leading our online voter engagement program. We aim to reach 100,000 Florida voters and encourage at least 7,000 of those voters to vote by mail. We have lofty goals – after all, this is the most important election of our lifetimes. To reach these voters, we’ll use cutting-edge, COVID-19 friendly tools such as phone banking and texting, and also rely on good, reliable postcards. Reaching our goals will take around the clock dedication. This is a big task and I can’t do it all by myself. That’s why I need you.
Volunteering with FCV’s Vote by Mail initiative is one of the ways you can make a real difference. We need your help to ensure our environment and democracy are protected for Florida families and generations to come. When people engage in our democracy by voting, we tap into our political power to protect our environment and create a healthy, sustainable future for all Floridians.
Voting by mail is a secure, trusted, and legal way to vote. Each election, millions of Florida voters cast their ballots by mail. With COVID-19, it’s more important than ever to have a plan to vote and make sure your voice is heard.
How will you make an impact this election? Will you lend a hand or watch from the sidelines? We cannot afford to sit this election out. Our land, water, climate, and democracy need Conservation Voters like you. With your advocacy, support, and action, I am confident that we can empower and unleash the power of voters in November.
