Tabling at March for Science Miami

published on: March 29, 2019

There is something to be said about bringing together scientists, policy makers, artists and economists to talk about climate change. This past weekend March for Science Miami did just that. Their annual March for Science Miami Teach-in focused on the theme of “Moving Forward” on issues of sea level rise and climate change in South Florida, fracking and the current state of affairs, and plastic pollution.

The Underwater HOA joined the discussion to promote community conversations about sea level rise and its impacts. Knowing where the place you call home sits, in terms of sea level rise, informs your decisions and actions. By simply going to citizeneyes.org/app/, you can insert your home address to learn your elevation number. The elevation number depicts how many feet of melting glacier water it would take before that property is underwater. The Underwater HOA engaged event goers in discussions about sea level rise through painting their elevation number on a yard sign for their front yard.

Other partners and speakers included Miami Waterkeeper, Miami-Dade County Commissioner Daniella Levine-Cava, and Food and Water Watch to name a few. To learn more about Underwater HOA and how to start a group in your community, click here and stay tuned for upcoming events.
