Thank you for taking action to stop Florida’s Constitutional Revision Commission from passing Proposition 97, which would have made it more difficult for citizens to amend the Florida Constitution via the amendment process. I am proud to inform you that, because of you, this bad amendment will not appear on the 2018 General Election ballot.
Voting is sacred to our democracy. No person or government entity has the right to put words in your mouth when it comes to voting. Proposal 97 would have set a dangerous precedent by weakening the public’s ability to participate in the political process.
Defending our democracy is a team sport. Your action helped stop this bad amendment in its tracks. And you should be proud.
Aliki Moncrief, Executive Director, Florida Conservation Voters had this to say in a recent Florida Politics article:
“Florida voters have a good track record of enacting sensible changes when politicians ignore the will of the people. When Tallahassee didn’t act, ordinary Floridians were able to take matters into our own hands to protect our water, land, and wildlife. Constitution Revision Commissioners should recognize Proposal 97 for the power grab that it is, and defeat it.”
Thank you for all that you do for Florida.
