Another session, another attempt to raise utility costs for Floridians. SB 1162, filed by Senator DiCeglie, and HB 821, filed by Rep. Yeager, put the cost of utility company infrastructure projects on the consumer by increasing their utility bills. Utility bills have been rising dramatically across the state for years, and now the FL legislature wants to make way for even more rate increases with these bills.
HB 821/SB 1162 would allow all utility companies to increase their customer’s bills to recover the costs of developing renewable natural gas and hydrogen-based fuel infrastructure, neither of which are sources of clean, renewable energy. This hinders a just transition towards renewable energy and is another way for utilities to increase their profits.
These bills have been moving steadily throughout the legislative process, and we must act now to stop them! Email your state lawmakers today urging them to vote NO on HB 821/SB 1162.
