STATEMENT FROM FCV EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR ALIKI MONCRIEF
“Florida Power & Light is clearly feeling the public pushback from their egregious attempt to raise electricity bills for Florida’s families. However, the new settlement still raises rates on customers at a challenging time and still includes investments in harmful fossil fuel infrastructure. Absent from FPL’s proposed settlement is any plan to transition to a 100% carbon-free future, which puts them as an outrageous outlier compared to a growing number of utilities across the country that are. The UN IPCC report couldn’t have been more clear: a steady and rapid transition to clean energy is absolutely necessary to prevent the worst impacts of climate change. The proposed settlement does not meet the urgency of this pivotal moment.”
